The State of the UAE is based upon a Constitution, that only became permanent in1996.The Supreme Federal Council, the highest authority in the State, gathers the sovereigns of the 7 emirates of the Federation. They elect the President and the Vice-­President for a 5-year (renewable) term.

Each of the seven Emirates has its own institutions and is ruled by a Sheikh.

H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nayan, Abu Dhabi, is the UAE President since 3rd Novembre 2004. H.HSheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai is the actual UAE Vice President.
