The
start of the New Year 2006 was saddened by the untimely demise of
Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and
Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The
Board of Directors, on behalf of all members, join the Nation in
mourning the sad demise of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and offer their deepest condolences to the Government and
People of United Arab Emirates.
Due to
the declared mourning period, events scheduled for January have been
temporarily postponed to a later date. An updated events bulletin
will be sent to you as soon as the new agenda is confirmed.

Saudi
Arabia: Realités, perspectives et opportunités d’affaires with
Jacques De Lajugie, Head of the economic services for the Middle
East and Jean-Claude Daupeyroux, Head of the French trade mission in
Saudi Arabia.
The kingdom of Saudi Arabia was presented as the first economic &
financial power in the Middle East but also as a fast changing
country. The new five-year plan, which was passed by the Ministers’
s Council last November, reflects the strong will of new King
Abdallah, to implement major changes on an economic and social level,
to prepare the forthcoming accession of the Kingdom to the WTO.

BREAKFAST CONFERENCE,
RECRUITMENT IN THE GULF, 11th December
The
FBC organised this conference in order to respond to the growing
interest of its members regarding recruitment in the region and give
them some alternative ways of recruiting. Yasser Hatami from
GulfTalent presented the results of a study carried out by
his Company to analyse the “Compensation trends 2005” all over the
GCC Countries. This study revealed an average Gulf wide salary
increase of 7% over the one year period stimulated by the increase
cost of living, the limited supply of available talent and the GCC
citizen’s growing expectation of sharing their countries’s revenues.
