			Dear Members and friends, The start of the New Year 2006 was saddened by the untimely demise of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum,* Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.* The Board of Directors, on behalf of all members, join the Nation in mourning the sad demise of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and offer their deepest condolences to the Government and People of United Arab Emirates. Due to the declared mourning period, events scheduled for January have been temporarily postponed to a later date. Tuesday 17th January CANCELLED		FBC KICK-OFF GET TOGETHER 2006 - The first 2006 get together will be the occasion to welcome the New Year and start networking in a relaxed atmosphere. The traditional “Galette des rois” will be offered to all guest of this special evening . Venue: Jumeira Beach Hotel - Beachcomber Garden Timings: 7h30 pm onwards
Monday 23rd January POSTPONED		Round Table-Breakfast Meeting with Mrs Christine Lagarde, French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade - The French Trade Mission organises a Breakfast Meeting on the topic of “Counterfeiting” on the occasion of the visit of Madame Christine Lagarde, the French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, in Dubai, with the participation of the French VIP officials. Open to FBC Members concerned by this problem for French Industry. Pre-registration is essential as extra security measures will apply at the hotel. Venue: Al Murooj Rotana Hotel - Dubai . Sunday 29th January POSTPONED 12th FEBRUARY		Lunch in presence of Mr. de Lajugie, Economic Counselor for the Middle-East - We are pleased to announce you that the lunch with M. de Lajugie, initially scheduled at the end of the year 2005, has been postpone to the 29 of January 2006. Mr. de Lajugie will give FBC Members and friends an overall view of the situation and the perspectives in the economic and financial fields in the Region. A seminar on forthcoming developments in a selected neighboring country will take place every other month, to keep you updated with potential key changes and business opportunities.

The Consular Section for Employment is at your disposal to assist you in building a strong and competent team for your business. Since its creation, the recruitment service has continued to develop every year placing more and more French and French speaking in firms already established in the UAE market or in the setting up phase.
Since the beginning of the year, we handled a total of 115 job offers and have already provided jobs to 40 candidates.

REGIONAL OUTLOOK SAUDI ARABIA, 7th December

Saudi Arabia: Realités, perspectives et opportunités d’affaires with Jacques De Lajugie, Head of the economic services for the Middle East and Jean-Claude Daupeyroux, Head of the French trade mission in Saudi Arabia.
The kingdom of Saudi Arabia was presented as the first economic & financial power in the Middle East but also as a fast changing country. The new five-year plan, which was passed by the Ministers’ s Council last November, reflects the strong will of new King Abdallah, to implement major changes on an economic and social level, to prepare the forthcoming accession of the Kingdom to the WTO. BREAKFAST CONFERENCE, RECRUITMENT IN THE GULF, 11th December

The FBC organised this conference in order to respond to the growing interest of its members regarding recruitment in the region and give them some alternative ways of recruiting. Yasser Hatami from GulfTalent presented the results of a study carried out by his Company to analyse the “Compensation trends 2005” all over the GCC Countries. This study revealed an average Gulf wide salary increase of 7% over the one year period stimulated by the increase cost of living, the limited supply of available talent and the GCC citizen’s growing expectation of sharing their countries’s revenues.
