Dear Members and friends,

In Dubai more than elsewhere, the year is seasonal instead of calendar and at the moment of the year that the city is emptying, it feels like time to look back to the past months.
Specialized topics of seminaries, high profile speakers, symposium on French Expertise on Large Projects, increased contacts with French CCI, the FBC has taken a new dimension: from business club to French Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abroad. These developments were initiated to respond your expectations and we are committed to carry them even further on.
Our Annual General Assembly on 19th October 2005 will be the opportunity to present you new initiatives and new projects for the period 2005/2006.
But let set our first appointment on 25th September for our back to business cocktail.
I look forward to meeting you again then and the entire FBC team joins me to wish you a fabulous summer time.

LE MARCHé IRANIEN BUSINESS LUNCH - 26th June 2005

Le Marche Iranien – Realites et perspectives de developpement pour les investisseurs etrangers. Guest Speakers : E. Rashidzadeh, Managing Director, Bank Melli Iran Dubai. Henri Zoleyn, Partner, Rycx Legal Consultants - This extremely interesting conference took place two days after the second round of the Iranian elections and the surprise election of an ultra- conservatist and first non-cleric president. Mr Rashidzadeh’s well documented presentation on Iran’s macroeconomic data and current infrastructure was completed by Henri Zoleyn’s legal perspective. Mr Zoleyn spoke about the special status granted to foreign investors by the law of 2002. In fact, foreign investors benefit from specific measures, which protect their investments and guarantees repatriation of their capital (including initial capital)- an important measure in a country where exchange control applies. Mr Zoleyn described the different conditions to set up a company in Iran (direct implantation or joint venture) , and confirmed the preferential fiscal terms that apply to foreign investors in Iran (10% tax on corporate net profit and a flat 25% income tax).

Although expressing some reserves as to the impact of this election on the individual freedoms and overall internal social policy, both speakers agreed to say that the President’s powers were limited by the 4th ‘Plan quinquenal “ and that the pursuit of the economy’s international development and the opening of the country to foreign investors were the only options available to the new president.

CRM BREAKFAST SEMINAR - 2nd July 2005

CRM (customer relationship management) - presentation by M. Mounir Ariss Managing Director - Peppers & Rogers Group (Middle East) - 20 FBC members and guests came to listen to Mr Ariss’ presentation on how companies can benefit from implementing an integrated CRM program and what CRM truly meant for businesses and indivuals,in terms of gains and set up. The key address was as follows:

• Treat different customers differently
• Identify- Differentiate-Interact- Customize

Things to remember
  • You can’t do any of this if you don’t have relationships
  • LTV( life time value) is the number you want, and there are lots of ways to estimate it besides sophisticated modeling
  • Customers don’t care about their value to you; they only care about what they need from you
  • Customer Centricity is a Journey and not a destination
  • First rule of customer centricity: Do No Harm
  • Second rule: Use customer centricity to leverage your own core competencies
  • Third Rule: You can’t take customer-specific action without assigning customer-specific responsibility
  • Finally and most important: A customer-first perspective must be in the DNA of your corporate culture

The CRM presentation is available at the FBC. Please contact us if you are interested
