LE MARCHé
IRANIEN BUSINESS LUNCH - 26th June 2005 |
|
|
|
Le
Marche Iranien – Realites et perspectives de developpement pour les
investisseurs etrangers.
Guest Speakers : E. Rashidzadeh, Managing Director, Bank Melli Iran
Dubai. Henri Zoleyn, Partner, Rycx Legal Consultants - This
extremely interesting conference took place two days after the
second round of the Iranian elections and the surprise election of
an ultra- conservatist and first non-cleric president.
Mr Rashidzadeh’s well documented presentation on Iran’s
macroeconomic data and current infrastructure was completed by Henri
Zoleyn’s legal perspective. Mr Zoleyn spoke about the special status
granted to foreign investors by the law of 2002. In fact, foreign
investors benefit from specific measures, which protect their
investments and guarantees repatriation of their capital (including
initial capital)- an important measure in a country where exchange
control applies. Mr Zoleyn described the different conditions to set
up a company in Iran (direct implantation or joint venture) , and
confirmed the preferential fiscal terms that apply to foreign
investors in Iran (10% tax on corporate net profit and a flat 25%
income tax).
Although expressing some reserves as to the impact of this election
on the individual freedoms and overall internal social policy, both
speakers agreed to say that the President’s powers were limited by
the 4th ‘Plan quinquenal “ and that the pursuit of the economy’s
international development and the opening of the country to foreign
investors were the only options available to the new president.
