The
Annual Seminar of Directors of French Chambers of Commerce
abroad for Asia was held in April in Vietnam. Attended by over 20
directors from different countries in this part of the world (including
FBC), this meeting was the opportunity to exchange experiences and
ideas about the development and cooperation of this network,
monitored by the Union of the French Chamber of Commerce and
Industry Abroad (UCCIFE).

FBC members and friends enjoyed the fine tasting, with a selection
of cow and goat cheeses “100% basque” offered by French producer ‘ONETIK”,
represented in Dubai by Roland Sayah.

May 2006) - After being greeted with a Champagne Cocktail, The
glamourous audience was treated to a delicious five course gourmet
dinner with a Provencal twist, which was also a delight to the eyes
- “un plaisir pour les yeux”, as the French would say – as were the
two surprising cabaret shows that punctuated the evening. The
artists especially flown in from Paris for the event, delighted the
audience with their intriguing skills and their remarkable dexterity. Mr and Mrs Nordin, Mr Laurent Watrelot and Mr Mansour Hajjar
were the lucky winners of exclusive prizes, including two beautiful
paintings by French artist Sébastien Desarbres, and a luxury
gift set of luggage and watch by fancy French leather manufacturer
Lancel.
One of the sponsors of the evening, French carmaker Peugeot,
offered an envying free week-end test drive with the new beautiful
Peugot Coupe 407, which was won by Ms Virginie Duquesne. The
glamorous guests then took to the dance floor with the Stompers, a
famous local band,till the early hours of the morning.

mission in Oman, gave the audience a clear and exhaustive
presentation on Oman’ s macroeconomics’ data, current infrastructure
and perspectives in all sectors of activities for Small & Medium
Enterprises (SME) as well as for Larger Companies.

LAUNCH OF THE "CARNET DE L'EXPORTATEUR - EMIRATS ARABES UNIS
2006"
The
official launch of the French export guide “Le Carnet de l’
exportateur- Emirats arabes Unis –Edition 2006’”, took place on
the 6th June at the Al Murooj Rotana, with a cocktail reception
offered by the French Business Council, in the presence of the
guide’sponsors, the editorial team led by FBC board member and
project manager Christine Fay, as well as senior
representatives from the French Trade Mission and the Consulate.
The guide provide useful contacts and concrete information to
companies looking to export, set up or develop business
relationships in the United Arab Emirates. The 160 page guide was
written in collaboration with the French Business Council for the
local informaton and is widely distributed through the main French
organizations promoting export, the various French Chambers of
Commerce and Industry, general and specialized bookshops, as well as
through exhibitions and direct sale to companies. In the UAE, it is
available from the FBC’ s office| : AED 120.

BILATERAL CONVENTION BETWEEN THE FBC AND THE FRENCH TRADE
MISSION

Francois Dao, FBC President and Jacques de Lajugie,
Head of Economic Services for the Middle East signed a bilateral
convention on 6th June, which further reinforces the existing links
between the FBC and the French Trade Mission. The aim of this
agreement, which falls under the framework of a new agreement signed
by DGTPE*, UBIFRANCE and UCCIFE* in May 2005, is to provide
joint support to French companies interested in the UAE market, and

ACQUISITION OF REAL ESTATE PROPERTY BY FOREIGN NATIONAL
CONFERENCE
This
lunch took place on the 6th of June 2006 at the Fairmont Hotel.
Mr Hussain Al Jaziri, advocate and Mr Sven Röthlingshöfer,
Attorney at Law at Ja’afar Alwan, Al Jaziri & Associates gave
the attendees an update of the legal situation on acquisition of
