PLANET FINANCE Breakfast
Seminar - 7th February |
|
|
|

Claire Cabanel-Rey,
Chief of Mission for Planet Finance in the UAE,
gave a presentation on microfinance around the world at an event
sponsored by Natexis Banques Populaires,
at the Fairmont Hotel Dubai on February 7th.
Claire explained how microfinance contributed to help very poor
people with self-employment projects through a system of programs
extending small loans, and other financial services, such as savings.
Claire then introduced Planet Finance:‘an international non profit
organization, which aims to alleviate poverty by contributing to the
development of the microfinance sector.” PlaNet Finance’s aim is to
support these efforts by federating Microfinance Institutions (MFIs),
and providing them with operational services in terms of capacity
building and financing to facilitate their growth.
Claire is currently setting up the UAE office for Planet Finance in
Dubai. It will be a coordination and leading office for PlaNet
Finance actions in MENA, and will raise funds for PlaNet Finance
programs abroad and build awareness of microfinance in the United
Arab Emirates and in the Middle East. Claire concluded her
presentation by highlighting the fact that the MENA region was a
young and very dynamic sector where the demand for microfinance
products was growing quickly, although micro finance reached only a
very small number of people in the region.
If you would like to learn more about micro-finance, and how your
company can contribute, you can contact:

EVOLUTION OF THE
MEDIA SCENE IN THE MIDDLE EAST |
|
|
|
|
Pierre
Soued,
Regional General Manager of
EURO RSCG Middle
East gave an
interesting presentation on the new developments in the regional
media environment to a 30 people-audience of FBC members and guests
at the Fairmont hotel on 22nd February. After a general introduction
to the Media Scene in the Middle East, in which Pierre highlighted
the changing face of ME countries in development, focus and power,
and thus of the consumers, he gave telling statistics on ad spending
and impact of the various media (TV, Radio, Cinema, Print, Internet,
Outdoor) in the region. He added that, although there were exciting
media opportunities coming our way, the Middle East market was also
subject to cluttered media and creative restrictions.
Pierre illustrated some basic regional censorship constraints by
showing a a selection of famous international ad campaigns, which
had to be adapted to the regional markets (KSA, Kuwait, UAE…), in
order to meet the censorship requirements. He concluded by saying
that media creativity was the most effective way to break the
clutter.
Therefore think big, think differently, think innovative, and make
the impact with your targeted audience!
The presentation of Pierre Soued is available at the French Business
Council.

FRENCH DELEGATION (CGPME)
- 28th February |
|
|
|
On
the morning of the 28th February, the FBC went to meet a delegation
of 26 French businessmen from 17 companies based in the Rhone Alpes
region at the Rotana Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road. The regional trade
mission was organized by SAS France Export and its local relay,
the Churchill Group, under the
umbrella of CGPME. After a short presentation of the FBC by France
Crespin, the delegation learnt about the exceptional development of
Dubai, and the opportunities offered to investors in the Emirate,
thanks to a detailled presentation by Dr Abdulaziz Istaitieh,
from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The participants were then given a talk on the various options
available to set up a business in Dubai by one of our active members,
Dina Founes, legal Consultant, from Molinari Legal
Consultancy.
Dina explained in detail the case of the free trade zones, and also
drew the attention of the participants on the special features of
the agency and distribution contract in Dubai. The breakfast seminar
ended with an invitation to join our FBC Get Together at the Blue
Bar in the evening, in order to start networking.
