The start of November, with the sudden death of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi has affected us all.

The board of directors, on behalf of all members would like to express its sincerest condolences to the people of United Arab Emirates on the sad demise of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

His leadership and vision are an inspiration to us all as we look forward to the future.

Due to the declared mourning period, events scheduled for November have been temporarily postponed or cancelled.

Please note that an updated events bulletin will be send to you as soon as we have the new agenda confirmed.

Wednesday 3rd Cancelled		Iftar Dinner - Come for a Dhow Cruise and meet Mr. Jacques de Lajugie, Minister Advisor, Head of Economics Services for the Middle East. Our guest speaker will discuss the situation and the perspective of the Middle East in the economic and financial fields. This event has been cancelled.
Monday 8th Cancelled		Al Naboodah Suhour Dinner - Take this opportunity to learn more about the UAE culture and habits attending this reception organized with the support of the Saeed and Mohamed al Naboodah Group. Our VIP guest speaker, Mohamed Al Murr, writer and Chairman of Dubai Cultural Center, will present on the subject of : The multi-cultural richness of UAE. This event has been cancelled.
Tuesday 23rd		Establishing a business structure in Dubai Seminar - You would like to create your own structure in Dubai, or stay informed on the latest legal changes in this matter, come and attend this breakfast seminar held by Denis Acker, Barrister and Solicitor, from Acker Choquette Advocates & Legal Consultants. M. Acker will present us the various legal structures available for the establishment of businesses in Dubai, and the distinctive characteristics of working in free zones. Tuesday 30th This event might be rescheduled		French Expertise in large projects - The French Business Council and the French Trade Commission are pleased to invite you to this one day free seminar supported by Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in which French firms will share their own experiences and success in big worldwide tasks. End of September, France Crespin attended the Regional Meeting of the French Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Asian region. This year the seminar took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and gathered 18 participants from 12 different countries. Serge Bellanger, President of UCCIFE (Union of the French CCI abroad) opened the seminar with an address highlighting the role of regional advisory committees. Dominique Brunin, Director, European and International Relationship at ACFCI (Union of French CCI) reaffirmed the will of a better cooperation between the French network of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in France and their international counterparts. Finally, Remy Arthus, Director of UCCIFE introduced a new financing plan in order to strengthen their developing plans for a better support of the network.

First week of November FBC Brands invited 4 members to join a small meeting in order to set up a yearly seminaries planning.
From the topics discussed, contacts are now being made in order to evaluate the possibility of organizing each of them.
All FBC Brands members will receive a proposal by mid-November and will be invited to submit additional subjects and comment on the suggested plan.

The n°19 issue of FBC Mag centered on “Healthcare & Well-being” has arrived. Your free copy has been sent to you by post, so you should receive it very soon. Once again the FBC would like to thank the writers and the sponsors of this magazine who made this number three issue possible. BUSINESS COUNCIL'S NETWORKING EVENING - 12th October

The sixth annual Back to Business evening co-organized by the Canadian Business Council and the American Business Council was held on October 12th at the Amal Ballroom, JW Marriott Dubai. The evening saw 450 members and guests from the 21 Dubai Business Councils. That was a great opportunity for our members to come together for a networking session. Each Business Council donated a door prize for the evening festivities. For the French Business Council, Patrice Douce, from Bateaux Dubai, offered a diner voucher for 2 persons, won by a member of The South African Business Council.

ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY - 13th October

Our Annual General Assembly took place on the 13th October at 6 pm at the Alliance Française. This was a very special occasion to meet with our members and present our achievements for the past 12 months. You have received or will receive very soon our annual report, in which you will see that the French Business Council has been experienced a significant growth in membership and a strong development in activities. We would really like to go further in developing a set of actions matching your expectations, that is why your involvement is more than never appreciated and needed. We take this opportunity to welcome Axel Berrier, Cyril Guth and Didier Hardouin among the new committee, and to thank Philippe Drivon, Zoran Jelkic and Alain Tave, who didn’t wish to represent their candidatures.

Help Darfur !

A group of volunteers, members of the french community, are developing a fundraising project in aid of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF): they would like to produce, publish and sell a French Recipes Book for December. The proceeds of this project will be donated to MSF and allocated to MSF Sudan missions.

Arbitration

No doubt arbitration has become a reality at the heart of international commercial relations. As every modern society seeks to meet the needs of the international markets and to integrate fully into the international commercial community, arbitration has become increasingly important. In an endeavour to further improve the quality and range of its services, the Dubai International Arbitration Center (DIAC) is assessing the demand for cost-effective alternatives to litigation for solving commercial disputes.

On 23rd and 24th November 2004, DIAC organizes together with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the ICC International Court of Arbitration, an International Conference on Effective Dispute Resolution for the Region.
